Simatic S5 and S7 control the production process

The Simatic control units developed by Siemens, in the current version S7, are used by most production companies to control the manufacturing process of their products. Like the S5 before it, the S7 has interfaces for exchanging data with other computers and devices.

Communication with the S5 was usually carried out using a "current loop" interface. The more modern S7 is able to communicate via the so-called Profibus using RS 422 and Ethernet.

At Kodak-Polychrome-Graphics , we have been operating a system for ten years that exchanges production data with the Simatic, an Oracle database and the central AS/400. In addition, a barcode is applied to the product at each production step for quality control purposes.

Our new standard product spsXChange enables the monitoring of Simatic modules via a browser, even on mobile devices.

Communication with CRM databases such as Microsoft NAV can also be set up. It is also possible to write data back to the Simatic via these interfaces. This allows production to be linked to your CRM.

spsXChange also allows the integration of scanners and cameras for more detailed production monitoring and control.
